Cinco de Mayo

When I lived in Phoenix, we all observed this occassion. No, it's not Mexico's independence day but rather the date of a victorious battle with the French.

Although we never went to any festivities, we usually went out someplace for Mexican food. This wasn't much of a celebration since we went out someplace for Mexican food extremely often but at least we were aware of it being Cinco de Mayo. In these northern climes, the day comes and goes with little or no notice whatsoever.

I've never been to Mexico. All my friends in Arizona thought I would find Nogales, Mexico too depressing. Just a step across the border lies horrendous poverty of immense proportions. It's all so very sad.

Consequently, I don't have a photo to feature today. Maybe I should photograph my packages of frozen El Monterey Chimichungas ... that's the closest I have. Or scan photos of me and a good friend in New Mexico. That was a fun trip!
